Pasolini ; death of a Roman film maker

As a film director, Pier Paolo Pasolini needs no introduction, but the retrospective at the Cinémathèque française in Paris shows him also to be a masterful writer, poet, artist and militant activist. The exhibition develops the chronological path that Pasolini took starting from 1950, (upon his arrival in ROME) and continues throughout his life; the focus being the interaction between Pasolini and his contemporaries. The context of Pasolini’s work is set against Roman sites and uses many, as yet unknown multimedia examples; drawings, paintings and audio visual excerpts which serve to expose the multifaceted nature of the man. Rome is as important a character in this exhibition as the man himself…

It was deemed of utmost importance to concentrate on this geographical aspect in order to fully comprehend the importance that this theme held for Pasolini and his peers. Expect then, from this exhibition which is from  the 16th october till the 26th january 2014 (before being subsequently held in Rome and Berlin), an in depth exploration of the relationship that the latter had with Rome, and from which other themes such as politics, literature, art, sex and love spring into shape, vying one another for attention. The onslaught and perpetual tension that arises is so omnipresent that it is doomed to end with violence and death; the untimely and violent death of Pasolini the legend.
