Ave Azzedine Alaïa

Anyone who remembers this fashion icon from the the 80s and 90s, will be awe-struck by what has been assembled here, as a homage to this man who is as loved as he is respected for his innovative, daring and sexy concepts through-out the decades. Many of his models wanted to model his dresses for free ; so much did they love his unique style and, perhaps, most of all, the “diva” like glamour effect that he concocted for them… His reverence towards the fairer sex is unequalled and it truly shows through the 60 odd pieces featured here; all have  his trademark flattering and exquisite designs; the remarkable presentations of which make them seem as if suspended on discreet mannequins. The « proximity » of the displayed work with the viewer (and for once not remotely « filtered « behind plexi glass ) here is evocative of the sensual and accessible rapport he sought to purvey in his day…The exhibition has already received wi(l)dely positive acclaim and justifiably so. It IS on the small side, so make a point to see this retrospective before it ends on the 26th of January 2014.
